Teresa Theofanos Collins, the founder of Alpha College Admissions Consulting, LLC, works as an independent educational consultant (IEC) in the Richmond, Virginia, area. She successfully completed an Independent Educational Consulting Certificate program through the University of California-Irvine, which consisted of 150 hours of evaluated learning. She attended the IECA Summer Institute for new IEC’s. 

Teresa is a trained counselor with a Master of Education in Student Affairs, with an emphasis on the college student population, from the University of Maryland, College Park, and a Bachelor of Science in Psychology from Virginia Tech. She has worked as an academic advisor and as an admissions counselor.  

Teresa and her husband have three children who are all college graduates.

Teresa’s training as an Independent Educational Consultant and years of previous work in the college environment in admissions, academic advising and residence life give her a unique perspective in working with students.

Professionalism

As an associate member of the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA) and a member of the Higher Educational Consultants Association (HECA), Teresa is focused on staying up to date on current trends of all things related to the college process through participation in annual conferences, workshops, webinars and other opportunities for professional development. She adheres to a strict code of ethics as stated in the IECA Principles of Good Practice and HECA Statement of Standards and Ethics.

 
 
 

Research & Organization

Teresa participates in annual college tours and visits to stay up to date on recent admissions developments and changes on college campuses. Through the use of a communications software platform designed for IEC’s and their students, she provides a balanced college list and a plan to stay organized, meet deadlines and complete all components of the college application process.

Writing & Editing Skills

Through writing newsletters and program books for many volunteer organizations, she has extensive experience in writing and editing. Brainstorming and guiding students in writing winning essays is one of her favorite aspects of being an IEC.

 
 
 

Individual Attention

In her practice, Teresa limits the number of clients each year in order to provide her students and their families the focused attention and personalized care that they deserve.
